it's an epidemic!

"But, then I wondered how I'd feel after abdicating my role as Princess of Genovia. Would I feel relieved? Or would I feel sad? And then I realized how many stupid times a day I used the word "I". In fact, probably all I ever do is think about myself."--Princess Mia Princess Diaries (the movie).

ever think about how something subtle can affect you? another line from that movie was good, but i will only use it if it happens to me.

so the swine flu. everyone's talking about it. it's giving everyone a good scare.

i mean, i just wonder why it takes something tragic or drastic (or any other word ending with -ic) to make us stop and think. think about life. think about the people around you. think about how the world works. think about how lazy we all are.

we're all lazy people with our own self-interests. there was an article in the hoofprint once about how we only do community service soley (sp?) for our own benefit. that's true...most of the time.

this reminds me of an episode in friends where phoebe wanted to do good deeds that didn't benefit her. it was hard because whenever she did a good deed, she would feel good about herself and that totally voids her whole point in doing that deed because it benefitted her in some way.

ever stop and think about how you get your mail everyday? sure the mail man brings it, but the envelope must have come from the hands of someone else. but where did the paper to make the envelope and the papers inside come from? the paper came from a factory of some sort where they press paper together. who would take on such a job? people who need it or couldn't find another job that suits them...

thing is, everything in this world works in a cycle. but no one really thinks of how these things get done. who does these?

who runs the internet? who runs the stoplight? who runs the electricity generator? who presses mush into paper? who thinks up new advertisement? who does all of these things?

these past few weeks i've been struggling with a personal problem i can't solve. it's pretty obvoius who i'm talking about. i keep thinking and thinking and it's such a selfish thing to do, to only think about yourself.

how many times this week have you said "i"?
